Fixed CCTV Cameras

Fixed cameras, which are also referred to as box cameras, and probably domes, are the work horses of the CCTV camera industry. These cameras are everywhere. Outdoors they are enclosed in housings to protect them from the elements, indoors the are hanging off walls and such. These camera are truly versatile. They come in relatively small profiles and larger profiles; they are an excellent choice for people who want to pick their own lenses and power sources.

When considering a fixed camera, or any CCTV camera actually, pay attention the lines of resolution if image quality is an important consideration. The higher the number the better. 300 lines is average, anything over 400 lines is considered high resolution.

Most fixed cameras come without a lens so be careful when purchasing one. Remember to verify whether a lens is included in the sale price. Typically professionals like a certain brand of lens so they prefer to buy a quality camera from a mamufacturer then purchase the lens from another source. This gives them full control over focal length and other variables they need covered while securing a site. Fixed cameras can accept C-mount or CS-mount lenses so beware of what type your camera requires.

In my opinion, these cameras are best suited for business and commercial surveillance. You can use them for your home but they will look out of place. Even if you decide to use a fixed camera outdoors in a housing; it's pretty hard to conceal. But that is exactly what some homeowners are looking for when the decide to use this cameras. They want it known that their home is monitored and they want these cameras hanging in full view.
